House Updates - Upstairs Hallway

Last winter and spring, when we were working on the master bedroom, we decided to update the hallway as well. Before picture.

The boy had some great ideas and did a really good job to freshen up the hallway. We did get some good ideas from the Spring Parade of Homes as well.

Stella always supervises!

Lots of measuring and paint tape. Measuring and paint tape.

It was fun to watch the boy figure out all of the
measurements, and for the whole thing to come together.

After he had everything measured out, he painted the bottom portion where the board and batten would come in.

Then it was time to put the paint tape back into place. There was lots of cutting and up and down the stairs. He cut the boards on our front stairs so there wasn't as much mess.

It was so much fun to watch all of this to come together. The boy is a total perfectionist when it comes to working on any projects for the house. He reminds me so much of my dad that way. He measures, and measures, and measures again. Totally worth it for the results that he gets.

I love the way the trim looked with this as well.

Once the bottom was done, it was time to paint the top.

We chose Frappe from the Valspar National Trust for Historic Preservation collection.

We have been SO happy with the Valspar paints. And this color is what kicked off our main floor entry, dining room and sitting room colors. Very happy with this paint and the colors.

The boy is also an excellent painter as well. So many people have commented and asked us who does our painting. Many have wanted to hire him out. But, of course, we have more rooms to paint!

You wouldn't think that something as simple as a hallway could make that much of a difference, but it really brightened up this space and just made the rest of the upstairs feel finished.

The other thing that the boy did that really updated the hallway and stairway was to strip, sand and put a darker stain on the railings and stair treads. He also replaced the hardware to go with the rest of the house. It really is the little things like this that make a difference.

He really did a good job, and the additional trim work that he added, just makes it feel more finished. We are very happy with the outcome though.

Another project off of the list!
