Vacation Re-cap - Part 1

Even though it didn't wind up being much of a vacation for me due to being so sick for most of it, we did get some fun in. So I thought since we broke it into two parts, CT and then NYC, I would do two posts to cover. I didn't take a lot of pictures in CT, which I am bummed about, and I didn't realize that I didn't until we were back home, but really overall, I didn't take a ton of pictures.

After we wrapped up for the day on Wednesday with work, we jumped in the car and headed down the Merrit Parkway to Stamford, CT. I thought it would be fun for the boy to see the Merrit Parkway since we don't have Parkways in Minnie. It really is such a pretty drive, for us unfortunately the trees were bare and it was kind of a gray February day, but it was still a really fun drive and for me, brought back a ton of memories. Popping in a favorite CD, putting the top down on my Cabrio and cruising.
Next up, we checked into our hotel, I am VERY pleased with our selection, for not knowing anything about it. Hotel Zero Degrees is new since I left Stamford and it is a boutique hotel, and we LOVED it. It was very chi chi, and zen like. We never took advantage of any of their wine tastings or breakfasts, but the lounge was wonderful. When you walked in the lovely smells were wonderful.
The Lobby (I loved this)

 This was our room.

After we got settled and relaxed for a bit, we headed out for dinner. Staying right downtown was perfect because we could walk everywhere. We had been out with my team quite late the night before in New Haven, some of the group even closed the bar down, and then an early morning and all day meetings, I was pretty beat. I wanted to introduce the boy to my favorite wings, so we hit up Bradfords for dinner. It was even wing night, and they were FAB-U-LOUS! How can you go wrong with .30 wings?
After dinner we just walked around and checked the area out, I love downtown Stamford and everything it has to offer, movie theaters, restaurants, pubs and some great late night spots. We wound up going to the movies and saw The Kings Speech, which we absolutely loved! After we hit up Market for a nightcap, love this place and they have the best wine.
The next morning the boy was all about hitting up a diner. After showing him around my old neighborhood, Shippan Point, and my beaches, oh how I miss my old neighborhood!

After some breakfast we hit the road for a little CT tour and stop by The Christmas Tree Shop, man how I miss that place.
After, I had to take him to SoNo and check out Chocopologie and pick up some of Fritzie's treats for friends back home.
Later that afternoon we met up with good friends S & G and their dynamo kid B for the best pizza on earth. . .Colony, no one has a clue as to how much I miss this pizza!

Oh man, just looking at that pizza I am jonsing in the worst way. Okay, and drooling. Later, we dropped the car back off at the hotel and headed out for music and beers. Man I miss my home turf.
Friday we woke up and headed to the Bronx for lunch at Dominick's and a little tour of Arthur Ave and City Island.

We had seen the movie City Island  last year and loved it and I thought it would be fun to show him how cute it is.
We also stopped by my alma mater Manhattanville on the way back and the a little stop off in Greenwich of course, gotta love the Ave and he of course loved my library.

Then it was time for some more pizza and home made mozz sticks as well as the best antipasta salad!
Unfortunately the night ended early with a conference call I had to get on. And then I worked most of the night. . .and then woke up at 2:00 am sick as sick can be. And continued to get sick, through a late check out, dropping the rental car off, and the train ride into the city. . . .to be continued. . .

Glad the boy got to see all your old spots. Helps him appreciate where you were and how much you enjoyed it!

Not to say he doesn't, just mean it gives him a new perspective.
