This is a pretty easy one, it may look harder than it really is, but I have some step by step instructions. I needed a larger bulletin board in my office, and I wanted something pretty and decorative like I have right now (but the pattern doesn't match and it is too small) so I thought, what the heck, I will make my own. I also would love a chalk board and magnetic board, but I just don't have the wall space so this will do for now. I like to put things on my bulletin board to remind me of things, things that inspire me and things that just make me smile. I have two windows in my office, but there isn't much to see out of them and my back is to one. And lately I have been spending more time than you can imagine in this room so I thought a little decorative touch was needed.
Here are the materials you need. One bulletin board, any size that you like, this was the medium size, it is about a yard. I bought mine at Target for about 7.99. One piece of .5 foam padding, a little larger than your bulletin board, a staple gun, scissors, decorative tacks, material of your liking-this is a remnant from Hancock fabrics that I paid about 2.40 for, and ribbon of your choosing.
I had a hard time finding the decorative tacks, but I did finally find them at Michaels. Someone else told me to ask for carpet tacks, and someone else said they have a better selection at Home Depot or Menards, probably Lowes as well.
Staple the foam around the frame of the bulletin board stretching and pulling to make sure it is tight (I had the boy help me because my hand started to hurt from the staple gun).
Next staple the fabric around the foam and bulletin board making sure to pull that tight!
After that was done I kind of played around with the placement of the ribbon (the decorative tacks go at the intersections of ribbon), and this is what I came up with! I am pretty pleased with the outcome, it was not exactly the fabric I would have chosen, but I was not going to custom order fabric for a yard and a half, but if I ever do come across exactly what I am looking for, maybe I will make another one, after all this one only took about an hour to make!

Looks terrific! I may actually be capable of this :).
How cool is that? I may have to do this for Meaghan's room.
Very cute!
Wow, that looks great!
Wow! I love it - definitely need to do this w/ the corkboard in my office.
sounds pretty easy. Thanks so much for that post. I have been wanting a pretty bulletin board. I might have to attempt this one.
