Wine Club

So, I decided to start a wine club through meetup and the first meeting was last night at Bellanotte which is a nice Italian restaurant downtown Minneapolis that I really like. They have an excellent wine list, the food is pretty good and they have a nice atmosphere with a nice patio. It was a beautiful night, and while there were a couple of cancellations there were still six that were confirmed. One person showed up. This is SO typical for MN. I just don't get it and I think it is down right rude. There is something here that the transplants call MN Nice vs MN Ice. Mainly it is just ice. The one girl that did show up, Jenny, is also in the book club and recently moved here from out East as well. So we had quite a bit in common, she and I had a couple of glasses of wine and sat and chatted getting to know one another. I just am not sure what to do about setting up the next one. I don't think that I am ready to give up yet and think that I need to give it at least one more try, but it is so disheartening when things like this happen.

I spoke to my sister about it when I got home and she was as usual, no biggie. But it just PEEVES me. I mean her birthday, one of her best friends since elementary school, cancelled late in the week. Which okay, fine, but we had plans to go to the Saints game for Ladies Night (who can resist a theme night where the theme of the evening is Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend?) so there were about 8 of us going. She cancelled which is fine, BUT, she went to the game with her husband and two children. AND did not even stop by to see us or wish my sister a happy birthday. I think that is rude. My sister claims that people in the midwest have stronger family values and value family first. I think that they just do not know how to balance life or how to treat people very well.

Enough of my venting because I leave in 1 1/2 hours for the airport! Yeah, I cannot wait to get out there to see my friends and hang on the beach and go to the Open! I am going to miss the boy though. I dropped a care package off for him last night with some brownies and cookies, m & m's, lemon heads (of course!) and a card which I wrote Sweets for my Sweet on! We are going to go to the State Fair when I get back though so that should be fun. With him having reserves these two weeks I would not see him anyway. A couple of people from his unit were involuntarily activated and are being deployed to Iraq for 6 to 8 months. They are looking for another 9 or so and if they do not get volunteers they are going to pull people. He does not want to go (I am glad about this) but he could get pulled. We will have to wait and see, and I am going to try not to worry too much about it.

Well, I think that I will be on blog hiatus for the next week, plenty to blog about when I get back, and if I do have some time and opportunity maybe I will update you if I get a chance!

OMG I so hear you on the Mid-West thing. I threw a party a month ago and of course got few RSVPs.. but I most LOVE the people who called 30 mins before the party to say they where not coming. I got so ill over it I finally told one.. It's OK since your never RSVP'ed I figured you where a no show anyway.
I grew up in NY right outside NYC and I still think people here in the "wholesome" Mid-West are way RUDER then back east... Or maybe they just have no maners.
Thanks for letting me vent...
